Dr. Soleiman Dias - President
After 22 years in the classroom, seven of those in South Korea, Dr. Soleiman Dias joined the Songdo New City Project in 2009 and saw the birth of Songdo International School, which later became Chadwick International in 2010.
With a Master's degree in International Education and a Ph.D. in International Studies (minor in Korean Studies), Dr. Dias joined KORCOS in 2005 and has been on the executive board of the organization for a few terms. Dr. Dias is also an honorary citizen of Seoul, and chair of the Songdo Advisory Board.
He founded and presides a few other organizations, such as the Brazil-Korea Association and the Seoul Council of Honorary Citizens.
Dr. Alice Lavina - President Emerita
Alice Fe D. Lavina is the President Emeritus of the Korea Council of Overseas Schools (KORCOS). She continues to serve actively from wherever she enjoys her well-past 60 years of age. Her continued attendance at KORCOS annual conferences inspires the organization’s leaders and members. Alice was among the few professionals that gathered together sometime August 1986 to revitalize KORCOS from its dormant status for 12 years. From then on, she served in various capacities: as Conference Coordinator, Vice President, and President for the longest time. Alice also served as President of the Phi Delta Kappa, Seoul, Korea Chapter for a few years. Besides numerous training and workshops learned from, Alice holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Silliman University of the Philippines. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the same university. She also holds a Certification for Post-Masters Studies in Psychology from Walden University and a Doctor of Education degree from the California Coast University. Alice remains an educator and professional development advocate firstly; but is also an aquaculturist, a scientist, environment care advocate, a full university professor for business and education; and also a school of elementary basic education founder in the Philippines. Nikki Nel - Vice President of International Education
Nikki Nel is the Vice President of International Education for the Korea Council of Overseas Schools. In this role, she is responsible for helping to organize the annual conference in March.
Nikki holds an Early Childhood Diploma from Loyalist College, B.A. in Psychology from Carleton University, and B. of Education from the University of Ottawa. This is her seventh year teaching at ECLC Seoul and her second year as a toddler teacher. She has worked with children for over 20 years. She believes in children learning by exploring the world around them.
In her spare time Nikki enjoys looking for insects and spiders on her walks and going out for dinner with her friends.;
Marc Montague - Vice President of Technology
Marc Montague is the Vice President of Technology for the Korea Council of Overseas Schools. He joined the KORCOS team in 2009 as the school representative for Korea Kent Foreign School and has been the Vice President of Technology since January 2015.
Marc is responsible for maintaining and designing the KORCOS website and provides technical assistance at any KORCOS sponsored event. Since taking on the responsibilities of the position, Marc has overseen the successful updating of the website to its current modern design.
He is currently employed as a computer science teacher at Korea Kent Foreign School. He has been teaching computer science to students at the school since 2009. He also holds the positions of Elective Teacher Coordinator and Google Teacher Trainer at the school.
Marc currently holds a teaching degree from The University of British Columbia and a bachelor of arts degree from Concordia University in Montreal. He is also a Level 2 Google Certified Educator and has been a member of the Computer Science Teachers Association since 2009.
Mirela Matesan - Vice President of Membership
Mirela Matesan is the Vice President of Membership for the Korea Council of Overseas Schools. She joined the KORCOS team in 2014 as the school representative for Chadwick International and has been part of the Executive Board since August 2015. Mirela holds an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Greensboro College, USA and a BA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the North University of Baia Mare, Romania. She is the ESOL specialist for grade 2 at Chadwick International.
Jillian Iwanuk - Secretary
Jill Iwanuk is in her ninth year serving KORCOS. She started out as her school representative and is now in her eighth year as Secretary. Originally from Boston, she moved to Korea in 2008. She holds Masters of Education degrees from the American College of Education and Boston College. She's the Middle School Principal at Asia Pacific International School. In her spare time, Jill enjoys blogging, reading, and spending time with her husband and two children.
Bill Waldron - Treasurer
Bill has been the KORCOS treasurer since 2013
He has also been an officer of the Teachers' Education Association-Korea (TEAK) for over 27 years holding various positions.
He has been the Osan American High School representative to KORCOS from around 2002 until 2012. That same year he moved for TEAK to join KORCOS and for the first time, they became a full member of KORCOS. He currently sits as the TEAK representative on the KORCOS general board.
